Passage Studies

Stay With the Passage Long Enough to Hear It.

How We Will Study

Never build an interpretation from an isolated famous verse when the surrounding passage can help answer the question. A sentence may be memorable, but its paragraph, chapter, and argument still get a vote.

Passage Studies will examine the immediate paragraph, author, audience, language, historical setting, quotations and allusions, surrounding argument, and the strongest competing interpretations.

The goal is not to make a difficult passage say less. It is to stay with it long enough to understand what it says, what the evidence supports, and what still requires careful interpretation.

Keep the Evidence in Front of You.

The Study Companion will help you annotate the passage and record observations, context, cross-references, interpretive options, supporting evidence, and your final conclusion.
